In order to correct a rhythm abnormality such as atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter, some patients require the application of a small electrical shock that the FCI Heart Center physician can safely apply to the chest wall. In most cases, this treatment restores the normal regular heart beat known as sinus rhythm. The procedure is performed in the hospital and requires sedation assuring that the patient is comfortable. |
